R&B The Improviser White Table Wine
The Improviser White Blend is a delicious Viognier-based, Rhone-style blend: Viognier, Vermentino, Rousanne, Marsanne, and Picpoul Blanc. Crisp and bright, this white blend is layered with flavors of blood oranges and Meyer lemons, and fuller flavors of stone fruits – peaches, apricots, tart plums – and lovely tropical flavors of pineapple, mango, and kiwi. This lovely white wine is beautifully balanced with crisp acidity and wonderful mineral characters.
The Wine: The Improviser White Blend was fermented in 2-year old French oak barrels and two Nonblut concrete fermentation vessels. The concrete eggs, as they are called, are shaped specifically to keep the leas in suspension to emulate the process of batonnage, which is the manual stirring of the leas. This is important as it adds to a creamier mouth-feel. Malolactic fermentation was started and then immediately stopped in order to keep its crisp acidity and bright mineral tones…the hallmark of good French white wine.
Vineyard
Lovett Vineyard in Lake County
The Improviser White Blend hails from the hillside of Lovett Vineyard in Lake County. The vineyards rise up from the shore of Clear Lake and are so steep that the entire vineyard is hand-farmed. The soil is a combination of volcanic soil and clay, adding to the crisp vitality of the wine.
